BCU/UKCC COACH COURSES

Isle of Wight Sea Kayaking are specialist providers of BCU Coach training and assessment and are at the forefront of standards of delivery. We are chosen by many centres, clubs and other organisations to deliver their coach courses. Our ethos is to deliver high quality courses that are both progressively developmental and enjoyable to be involved with; we know that a fun and practical course enhances learning.

Training - Our coach trainers have many years of experience to draw on when delivering our courses, you can expect a well structured course with bucket loads of top tips and tricks of the trade to help you on your way - you will leave the course with a detailed personal action plan to aid your progress towards assessment and beyond. As one of our students said "its a change to be on a [coach training] course led by someone who can and does, rather than someone who did and can't"

Assessments - Our assessments are professionally run but geared towards giving you a relaxed and enjoyable experience that is a continuation of training, where you come away, what ever the result, with new ideas and top tips to try out. You will always have the opportunity to coach real students that are at an appropriate level for the award and there will be no 'set-ups', no one trying to catch you out.

We are in an almost unique position to be able to offer the full range of the new BCU/UKCC awards as they come on line both from our base on the Island and to any other location around the UK - we have run many of the new level 1 and 2 courses on the Island, and for clubs and centres around the UK and we will be involved in the first deliveries of the new level 3 award.

BCU/UKCC Level 1 Coach Training and Assessment

The Level 1 award is for those new to paddle sport coaching. The qualification is not discipline specific and is therefore suitable for coaches who wish to work with paddlers from any of the competitive and non-competitive paddle sport disciplines. The Level 1 Coach can plan, deliver, and review short coaching sessions; normally with the support of a more qualified coach. L1 coaches are able to deliver the PaddleSport and PaddlePower Start awards.

BCU/UKCC Level 2 Coach Training

This is the second step on the paddlesport coaching pathway. It focuses on progressive coaching, helping you to develop your students within their first three years of paddling through a series of sessions. It is for the coach who wishes to work in a more autonomous way, who may need to take responsibility for L1 coaches. The course will give you the skills to focus your coaching on your students needs and is therefore a discipline generic award in the same way as the L1 award. L2 Coaches are able to deliver awards up to and including the 2* award.
