For most people, attending a first aid course does not become
a priority until they are involved in an incident; could you honestly
say you’d know what to do when confronted with a paddler
lying face down on the side of the river bank? Could you act to
give them the very best chance of survival? If that was one of
your paddling friends could you be sure the stress of the situation
would allow you to think clearly? The approach of Rescue and Emergency
Care (REC) and BCU Aquatic 1st Aid courses are not to spend the
time fine tuning your bandaging skills, but to give you reliable
dependable approaches to dealing with incidents; they assume intelligence
and problem solving skills indicative of outdoor people.
The one day BCU Aquatic 1st Aid and REC Basic courses give a
basic level of awareness of the fundamental 1st Aid procedures
and common paddling injuries. The two day Emergency Course goes
a little further than the Basic or aquatic while still covering
the same information, it also goes into a lot more depth and allows
for more time to cover specific outdoor related injuries. The
Standard course is a four day assessed course giving time to cover
specific outdoor related injuries and also all the information
required for the Heath and Safety Executive 1st Aid at work qualification.
Our experienced 1st aid coaches are all active outdoor people
and we will tailor the course to the sporting interests of participants,
such as Mountaineering, Sailing, Kayaking or Mountain Biking.
All our advertised courses are run on the Isle of Wight, but
if you have a group and require a course to be run at another
location please contact us for a discussion on what we can provide
for you.
